Grease means semisolid or solid lubricant fused as a diffusion of thickener in a lubricant which is liquid. It consists of soap emulsified with mineral or vegetable oil. The main function of greases is that they possess a high viscosity, which upon application of shear, drops to give the same result of an oil-lubricated bearing of same viscosity as the base oil used in the grease. This change is called shear thinning. Greases are enforced to mechanisms which can be lubricated infrequently and where a lubricating oil would not stay in position for a long time. Greases also act as sealants to protect the ingression of water and compressible materials. Bearings which are lubricated from grease have great friction because of high viscosity.
Features of Greases :
- Pumpability is the capacity of grease to be pushed or pumped through a system. pumpability is a facility where pressurized grease can flow through nozzles, lines, and fittings.
- Our Greases are water resistance which means it has an ability of a grease to hold out against the effects of water with no change in its capacity to lubricate.
- Its consistency depends on the amount and type of thickener used along with the viscosity of its base oil.
- Grease’s Dropping point is an indicator of the heat resistance. Grease temperature increases, penetration increases till the grease melts and the desired consistency is lost. The temperature at which a grease becomes liquid to drip is known as dropping point.
- Greases has a property of Oxidation stability which means reaction of grease with oxygen produce insoluble gum, which increased wear and tear of machinery.
